PEDIATRIC ANESTHESIA

Anesthesia can be safely and efficiently administered to pediatric patients in an office based setting. There are a few special considerations specifically for our youngest patients.

  • Breast milk may be ingested for up to 4 hours before elective procedures requiring anesthesia.

  • A light meal, nonhuman milk, or infant formula may be ingested for up to 6 hours before elective procedures requiring anesthesia.

  • After the procedure, we will allow parents to the recovery area as soon as it’s safe for the patient and staff. Your child will likely be asleep or disoriented; it takes time for the body to metabolize the anesthesia.

  • Follow the post operative care instructions from your provider. Tylenol is the ideal medication for post op pain management (unless otherwise specified by your surgeon or anesthesiologist.)
